Staging the Jiangnan—Prehistoric Civilization of Caoxieshan and Circum-Taihu Lake Area
The Second Special Exhibition Hall, the 1st Floor
The Circum-Taihu Lake Area has been one of the most important cradles of Chinese civilization. As archaeological work has been carried out for several years, a complete archaeological cultural pedigree of the Neolithic Period with Majiabang culture, Songze culture and Liangzhu culture as the representatives in the Circum-Taihu Lake Area is established. As such, the area becomes one of the areas boasting the clearest development process of Chinese prehistoric culture. There are differences between the concepts of prehistoric “culture” and prehistoric “civilization”. However, the sound development of social production, life and culture in the area can prove that the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the Circum-Taihu Lake Area 7000 years ago witnessed the origin of Chinese civilization. The exhibition of Staging the Jiangnan—Prehistoric Civilization of Caoxieshan and Circum-Taihu Lake Area is planned by the Museum of Wu, and 178 pieces/sets of Taihu prehistoric cultural relics from 10 cultural relic institutions and museums unearthed from 15 ruins in the Circum-Taihu Lake Area are exhibited. The exhibition presents the complete and wonderful prehistoric history of the Circum-Taihu Lake Area.
